More About...
Take Care! Take Pride!™
Teaches Prevention
Take Care! Take Pride!™ Is
not an instrument repair video, rather in enables students to
prevent problems with their instruments by teaching them proper
assembling and handling techniques and effective cleaning and
maintenance procedures. This means: Less hassle for the student,
less hassle for you, and more time for rehearsal.
Designed for a Video Generation
As any educator is well aware, the
students we are teaching today are part of the Video Generation.
Most likely, an overwhelming majority of your students have had
considerable exposure to educational television as well as many
other types of programs. Whether we find this desirable or not, it
is something that we as educators have to take into consideration
when teaching students. Because Take
Care! Take Pride!™ utilizes Video Instruction, and is
appropriately entertaining, it is a perfect match for a visually
oriented audience.
State of the Art Instructional
Design
Although the Take
Care! Take Pride!™ video can be used as a stand alone
video, there are many different presentation options in which you
can participate to a greater or lesser extent. Ideally, the video
should be used as part of a complete instructional process. Included
with the video package is an instructor's guide which if followed,
will take your students through a behavior modeling process.
Research has indicated that using the behavior modeling technique
for this type of learning can increase the likelihood of the
students actually assimilating the new behaviors. The instructor's
guide explains this process as well as the different viewing
options.
Shockingly Informative
Very few students actually realize
the kind of things that grow inside of their instruments when not
cleaned. Take
Care! Take Pride!™ shows actual footage of the corrosive
build up and bacteria which thrive in a dirty instrument. In our
experience, when students were made aware of these things the shock
value alone was enough to get them to clean their instruments
regularly.
Transfer and Reinforcement of
Learning
Included in the instructor's guide
are several ideas on how you can help transfer and reinforce new
behaviors. Master copies of "Care Cards" for each instrument will
help students remember the techniques and procedures. The license
agreement allows you to copy these cards freely for your band.
